As part of our project Creative Accounting, we’re looking for 12 freelance artists and arts workers to join one of two group discussions on either scarcity or rejection and their impact on hope. Creative Accounting is an ACE-funded R&D project by The Uncultured that explores the possibility (or impossibility) of freelancer sustainability. At a time we’re being told to be resilient and adaptable, we are interested in the ways in which real or perceived scarcity and rejection impacts our ambition, future planning, and ability to create (in other words, hope). If you get multiple funding rejections does it make you think your work isn’t worth creating? Does the competition for money make you pitch projects with unrealistic budgets? Have your earnings ever negatively impacted your life plans? Key information - Participants will be remunerated £50 for attending one 2-hour group zoom session. - You must work freelance in the arts as either an artist or any type of arts worker. Your field should be in or include performance (including theatre, live art, dance), visual arts or combined arts. You must be England-based. - Eligible participants will be chosen by random-number generator to select 6 participants per session. 50% of the places will be specifically for global majority, disabled and neurodivergent individuals. - The session will include auto-captions and a short break, but if you have access requirements you would like us to be aware of, there is space to indicate this on the form. Sessions: Scarcity and hope session: Tuesday 3rd November 2026, 2-4pm Rejection and hope session: Wednesday 4th November 2026, 2-4pm To apply: Please fill out this quick Google form which is mostly monitoring info, so we can double check eligibility and then pop you in the pool.
